We re-engage farmer collectives (a.k.a savings groups) and work together to develop products that optimize use-cases in farmer savings and credit groups that have traditionally limited offerings (short-term savings and micro-loans). We introduce long-term savings and credit products by linking farmer collectives to financial institutions (local and/or international) with the best offering and aligned mission. The group trainer is our footprint in delivering these additional services to farmer collectives.
For the carbon farmers who participate in our carbon farming program, we engage local extension structures to reinforce messages and training on farming practices that improve soil health and increase carbon sequestration of farms. We use digital platforms to train and reinforce extension messages to farmers participating in our carbon program.
How We Do It
We equip our Agents to offer their savings groups bundled services. We train them to:
- Provide quality farm inputs like seeds, fertilizers to vetinary drugs and ensure group members know how to order and pay for these products using the Lastmile android APP or USSD shortcode.
- Train farmers on the latest agricultural practices and how to time for best market prices.
- How to have saving group objectives and work step-by-step with proper records towards achieving their goals.
